Experience

Editor

March 2008– June 2008

I was in charge of editing a show-reel for a film festival. This also involved having the final cut responsibilities for a documentary entered into the Sundance film festival in America.

Personal Statement: I am very self motivated and will do whatever it takes to get a job done. My main practice is video editing and this is something I see myself doing as a career. One of my key skills is my attention to detail, I have a keen eye for making something look as good as possible with my persistence and determination. As far as my technical knowledge goes, I am more that capable at using most, if not all, editing software, from Windows Movie Maker to AVID. My main interest is drama, from the story -telling aspect to the aesthetics of a piece, I am take an interest in the whole genre of drama films.

Motivational Statement: When I have graduated from University, I intend to become a freelance video and film editor. When I was doing my A levels I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do afterward. I always knew university was an option, however I didn’t know what course would suit me. It was when I was doing my coursework for one of my modules for Media Studies that I knew that Media Production was the right choice for me. When I leave, my ideal career would be a freelance video editor. This could be a precarious career choice without much professional experience. I chose this decision as it will give me the capability to utilize skill set I have obtained over my degree e.g. communication and networking skills. Also, I don’t feel comfortable applying for Assistant editor roles, starting from the bottom. Freelancing also gives me greater earning potential. With this in mind, during my studies I have set out to gain as much practical experience as possible. I have done individual as well as group projects at university to edit showreels for film festival such as The Phoenix Media Festival. I have received constructive feedback on my work which I have Taken on board. I have done work for lecturers and friends for little to no cost in order to build up my portfolio and I have now reached the stage where I am comfortable going to clients and asking for work. At university I have learned a great deal to do with making films from producing to editing. One assignment had a brief to create and develop an idea for a film. I had to pitch my idea to “potential investors”, putting together a script and a storyboard. In my first year I chose the Add+Vantage module Creative Enterprise and last year I chosen to do the Journalism module. Both modules have given me useful skills. During my professional practice module I did a work placement with Phoenix Media Festival where I learned how to be time efficient and how to transfer my skills as an editor into the professional atmosphere. I am keen and motivated to succeed.I have a plan to set up and work from home, after which I hope to move to a small studio.
