My main aim in my future career is to be a freelance editor, and in five years I would like to be editing a film for an award wining production company. I wish to accomplish this by working for as many production companies as possible when I graduate, or even when I’m still studying. This will aid me to strengthen my contacts and improve my employment chances. It will also provide me with the experience I will need to progress through my career.
For my professional experience module I would like to work as an editor for the phoenix media festival; collecting footage from possible entries and editing it into show-reels to be shown in the lobby and separate rooms across the festival. I feel I will gain experience in editing and working for someone else, which will help me realise if I’m able to work under pressure.
I have already started emailing the organisers of the festival to try and secure a job as an editor. In the emails I have stated what my interests are in editing for them, what experience I have, how bringing me on board help the festivals progress and what I feel I can get out of the experience of working for them.
